🚀 MCP Time Server Demo

This is a simple server example based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), built using TypeScript and the @modelcontextprotocol/sdk. It provides a tool to get the current time and optionally specify a time zone.

✨ Features

• getCurrentTime tool: Get the current time.
  • Supports an optional timezone parameter (IANA time zone identifier, e.g., America/New_York, Asia/Shanghai).
  • If no time zone is provided or the time zone is invalid, it returns the server's local time.
• MCP Compatibility: Can be integrated with any MCP-supporting client (e.g., Claude Desktop or MCP Inspector).
• Based on Stdio: Uses standard input/output for communication, making it easy to integrate.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js (It is recommended to use the LTS version).
• npm (Usually installed with Node.js).

Steps

1. Clone or download this repository.
2. Open a terminal in the project's root directory and run the following command to install the dependencies:

npm install

💻 Usage Examples

1. Compile the Project

Since the project is written in TypeScript, you need to compile it to JavaScript first:

npm run build

2. Run the Server

npm start

Testing with MCP Inspector

1. Download and install MCP Inspector.
2. Start MCP Inspector.
3. Create a new MCP session in MCP Inspector.
4. In MCP Inspector, select Tools -> Import Tool, then select tools/getCurrentTime.ts.
5. Click the Import button, and then find the getCurrentTime tool in the Tools list.
6. Click the getCurrentTime tool, and then click the Run button.
7. View the output results.
