What is the MCP VMS server?

This is a middleware service specifically designed to connect to the video monitoring system (VMS), allowing users to access the real-time images and recorded playback of surveillance cameras through standard protocols and remotely control the camera direction (PTZ).

How to use the MCP VMS server?

You need to install the VMS monitoring system software and the Python environment first. After configuring the connection parameters, you can obtain video streams or control the cameras through API calls.

Applicable scenarios

It is suitable for scenarios where the monitoring system needs to be integrated into a unified management platform, such as intelligent buildings, security centers, and remote monitoring, where multiple monitoring images need to be viewed centrally.

Main Features

Video Stream Acquisition
Supports obtaining real - time monitoring images and recorded playback at specified times
Camera Control
Can remotely control the direction, zoom, and preset positions of PTZ cameras
Status Monitoring
Obtain the connection status and recording status of each camera in real - time
Image Processing
Provides standardized image output formats (RGB, 320x240, etc.)
Advantages
Access different monitoring systems through a unified API interface
Support both real - time image and recorded playback modes
Complete error handling and log recording
Lightweight image transmission scheme
Limitations
Dependent on a specific VMS system (Surveillance Logic)
Require pre - installation of VMS server software
Only support the Windows platform

How to Use

Install Pre - requisite Software
Download and install the VMS server software
Configure the Python Environment
Install Python 3.12+ and the UV package manager
Download Dependent Libraries
Obtain the vmspy library and extract it to the project directory
Configure Connection Parameters
Modify the server address, port, and authentication information in mcp_vms_config.py
Start the Service
Start the service by running mcp_vms.py through UV

Usage Examples

View Real - time Monitoring of the Hall
Security personnel need to view the real - time monitoring image of the hall at any time
Play Back Abnormal Events
Play back the monitoring recording of the warehouse area from 14:00 to 14:30 yesterday
Adjust Camera Angle
Turn the camera at the entrance to a specific preset position
