The Satellite Tracking MCP Server is a powerful tool that offers access to satellite tracking data through the N2YO API. It provides various tools and resources for satellite information retrieval.

This MCP server offers the following features:

Tools

• get_satellite_position: Retrieve the real - time position of a satellite with a specified NORAD ID.
• get_satellite_tle: Obtain the TLE (Two - Line Element) data of a satellite with a specified NORAD ID.
• predict_visual_passes: Predict the visible satellite passes based on a geographical location.
• predict_radio_passes: Predict the satellite passes at radio frequencies based on a geographical location.
• get_satellites_above: Get a list of satellites currently above a specified location.
• search_satellites: Search for satellites by name or category.

Resources

• satellite://ID: Get information about a satellite with a specified ID.
• category://ID: Get a list of satellites in a specified category.

📦 Installation

System Requirements

• Operating System: Linux, Windows, macOS
• Memory: At least 512MB
• Network: Internet connection required to access the N2YO API

Installation Steps

1. Download and install Node.js (version 14 or higher is recommended).
2. Clone this project to your local development environment.
3. Install the dependencies:

   npm install
   

4. Configure the environment variables:
   • Create or edit the environment variable file .env.
   • Add the following content:

     N2YO_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
     

5. Start the server:

   npm start

Environment Variables

• N2YO_API_KEY: Required. Obtain your N2YO API access key.

Configuration File

• The config.json file in the project root directory contains the following default configuration:

⚠️ API Key Limitations

The usage limitations of the N2YO API (free version) are as follows:

• Maximum of 1,000 requests per hour.
• Basic functionality of all endpoints is available.

Please note these limitations to avoid exceeding the quota.

🔧 Troubleshooting

⚠️ Important Note

• API Key Error: Ensure that your N2YO API key is valid and correctly set in the environment variables.
• Rate Limiting: If you encounter rate - limiting errors, the server will automatically retry using an exponential backoff algorithm, but you may need to wait before making more requests.
• No Data Returned: Some satellites may not have real - time tracking data available, especially old or decommissioned satellites.
