This is an example of the working mode of an MCP server and a standalone MCP client based on SSE (Server-Sent Events), referring to the initial discussion here.

🚀 Run the Server and Client

This setup means that the MCP server can now be an independently running process, and the client can connect to it at any time and from any location. Compared with the STDIO-based client mode (where the client itself starts a subprocess as the server), this is a different mode and is more suitable for "cloud-native" use cases.

🔧 Technical Details

🖥️ Server

weather.py is an SSE-based MCP server that provides some tools based on the National Weather Service API. It is adapted from the example STDIO server implementation in the MCP documentation.

By default, the server runs on 0.0.0.0:8080, but it can be configured via command-line parameters:

uv run weather.py --host <your host> --port <your port>

💻 Client

client.py is an MCP client that connects to the SSE-based MCP server and uses its tools. It is adapted from the example STDIO client implementation in the MCP documentation.

By default, the client connects to the SSE endpoint provided by the command-line parameter:
