This project offers a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. It enables AI assistants to access Stadia Maps APIs, which provide location services, geocoding, routing, and mapping capabilities.

• Time Information:
  • Get the current time anywhere on earth.
  • Obtain time zone details, including the ID, UTC offset, and whether special offsets like daylight saving or summer time are in effect.
• Geocoding:
  • Perform address lookups.
  • Conduct place searches for POIs such as restaurants and cafes.
• Static Map Image Generation: Create static map images with markers and route overlays.
• Routing & Travel Time: Calculate routes and travel times.
• Isochrones: Determine reachable ranges in terms of both time and distance contours.

🚀 Quick Start

Building

We'll use bun in our instructions, but npm can also be used.

1. Run bun install to fetch the dependencies.
2. Execute the build script: bun run build. The built code will be in the build directory.

Configuration

This MCP server requires a Stadia Maps API key. Follow the instructions here to get your free key. Then, set the API_KEY environment variable when running the server.

Specificity in Prompts

LLMs are not perfect, and sometimes you need to guide them to use the right tools. For example, when asking for opening hours, many models may try to search the web, but this information may not be easily available. You can guide the model to use the tools in this MCP as shown in the following images:

Creativity in Usage

LLMs have limitations. For instance, when bulk geocoding addresses in a spreadsheet, you can attach an Excel sheet in Claude Desktop and prompt it to geocode all addresses and add latitude and longitude as new columns. At present, Claude can't directly generate a spreadsheet attachment, but it can generate an HTML page or other code to achieve this.

Customization

Similar to human craftsmen, LLMs perform better with the right tools. You may need some expert knowledge to combine tools effectively. Also, models have context limits. Tailoring the MCP to your specific API needs can save costs. The tool schemas contribute significantly to the context cost.
