🚀 MCP Server Bootcamp: From Zero to Hero

This is a comprehensive and free bootcamp that enables you to master the creation of MCP servers. In just 7 weeks, you'll transform your understanding of Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers from basic concepts to advanced enterprise architectures.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

• Node.js 18+ and pnpm 8+
• Python 3.11+ (for FastAPI examples)
• Docker and Docker Compose
• Git for version control
• An editor like VS Code (configuration included)

Quick Installation

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/tu-usuario/mcp-server-bootcamp.git
cd mcp-server-bootcamp

# Set up the workspace
pnpm install
pnpm run setup

# Verify the installation
pnpm run verify-setup

# Start the first module
cd ejemplos/modulo-01/calculadora-basica
pnpm run dev

🐳 Development with Docker

Initial Configuration

1. Copy the environment variables:

# Create the local configuration file
cp .env.example .env

2. Start the services:

# Start all services in the background
docker compose up -d

# Check the container status
docker compose ps

3. Access the development environment:

# Enter the development container
docker compose exec bootcamp-dev bash

# Once inside the container, install dependencies
pnpm install

# Verify that everything works
pnpm run verify-setup

Useful Docker Commands

# View logs of all services
docker compose logs -f

# View specific logs of the development service
docker compose logs -f bootcamp-dev

# View database logs
docker compose logs -f db

# Restart the services
docker compose restart

# Stop all services
docker compose down

# Stop and remove volumes (CAUTION! This deletes database data)
docker compose down -v

Connect to the Database

From your local machine, you can connect to PostgreSQL using:

• Host: localhost
• Port: 5432
• User: bootcamp_user (defined in .env)
• Password: supersecretpassword (defined in .env)
• Database: mcp_bootcamp_db (defined in .env)

Development in the Container

# Run specific commands in the container
docker compose exec bootcamp-dev pnpm install
docker compose exec bootcamp-dev pnpm run dev
docker compose exec bootcamp-dev pnpm test

# Work interactively
docker compose exec bootcamp-dev bash
# Now you're inside the container and can run any command

🛠️ Local Installation (Alternative)

If you prefer not to use Docker, you can set up the local environment by installing the dependencies directly on your machine. Make sure you have Node.js, Python, and PostgreSQL installed.

# Install Node.js dependencies
npm install

# Install Python dependencies (if necessary)
pip install -r requirements.txt

# Start the server
npm run dev
