Basic Usage

To start the tool, run the following command:

npm start

Integration into MCP Client

To integrate this tool into the MCP client, you need to perform the following steps:

1. Start the MCP Server

First, make sure the MCP server is running:

npm start

The server will listen on standard input/output, waiting for the connection from the MCP client.

2. Configure the Tool in the MCP Client

In your MCP client configuration, add a reference to this tool server. The specific configuration method depends on the MCP client implementation you are using.

For JSON-based configuration, you usually need to add a configuration similar to the following:

count_code_lines

A tool for counting code lines.

Parameters:

• fileType (string, required): The code file type, e.g., javascript, python, java, etc.
• code (string, required): The code content to be counted.

Returns:

• The statistical result of code lines, including the total number of lines, code lines, comment lines, and empty lines.

get_statistics

Retrieve the statistical information of code lines.

Parameters:

• startTime (string, optional): The start time in ISO format (e.g., "2023-01-01T00:00:00Z").
• endTime (string, optional): The end time in ISO format (e.g., "2023-12-31T23:59:59Z").

Returns:

• The statistical information of code lines, including the total number of files, total lines, total code lines, total comment lines, total empty lines, and grouped statistics by file type.

🔧 Technical Details

Data Persistence

The tool automatically saves the statistical results to the data/code_line_data.json file to ensure that the data will not be lost after restarting.

Supported File Types

Currently, the following file types are supported for comment recognition:

• JavaScript

• Kotlin
• TypeScript

For unsupported file types, the total number of lines and empty lines will still be counted, but the number of comment lines will be 0.
