What is AffinityMCP?

AffinityMCP is a bridge connecting artificial intelligence assistants (such as Claude, Cursor, etc.) with the Affinity design suite. Through natural language commands, you can control Affinity applications to perform various operations without manually clicking on the interface.

How to use AffinityMCP?

First, configure the AffinityMCP server in your MCP-compatible client (such as Cursor, Claude Desktop, etc.), and then you can use natural language to communicate with the AI assistant to operate the Affinity application. The AI will convert your natural language request into specific tool calls.

Use cases

AffinityMCP is particularly suitable for designers and content creators who need to batch process images, automate repetitive design tasks, and quickly export files in multiple formats. It can significantly improve work efficiency and reduce manual operation time.

Main Features

Natural Language Control
Control Affinity applications using everyday language without learning complex command syntax
16-way Parallel Processing
Process up to 16 files simultaneously, significantly improving the efficiency of batch operations
File Operations
Open files, create new documents, and export in multiple formats (PDF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, SVG)
Advanced Tools
Apply filters, obtain document information, close documents, and other advanced functions
Cross-platform Support
Currently supports macOS (via AppleScript), and Windows support is under development
Easy Setup
Provides a detailed step-by-step setup guide, suitable for beginners to quickly get started
Advantages
Complete complex tasks through dialogue without manually operating the Affinity interface
Powerful batch processing capability, 16-way parallel processing significantly saves time
Supports natural language, with low learning cost and intuitive use
Compatible with multiple MCP clients, including Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code, etc.
Open-source project with active community support
Limitations
Currently mainly supports the macOS system, and Windows support is still under development
Requires the Affinity application to be installed and authorized
Some advanced Affinity functions may not be supported yet
Requires basic command-line operation knowledge for initial setup

How to Use

Install Dependencies
Ensure that your system has Node.js 18+ and Rust 1.76+ installed (if building from source)
Get an API Key (Optional)
If using the Canva Connect function, you need to obtain an API key from the Canva developer console. You can skip this step for pure local Affinity operations.
Build or Install
Build from source or run directly using npx
Configure the MCP Client
Add the AffinityMCP server configuration to the MCP client you are using
Start Using
Use natural language to communicate with the AI assistant in the client to control Affinity applications

Usage Examples

Batch Process Design Drafts
Designers need to batch export multiple Affinity Designer files in different formats
Quickly Create Social Media Images
Content creators need to create images of various sizes for different platforms
Batch Edit Photos
Photographers need to apply the same filter effect to multiple photos
Document Format Conversion
Need to convert an Affinity Publisher document into multiple formats required by the client
