What is the Nature Vision MCP Server?

The Nature Vision MCP Server is an intelligent species identification tool designed specifically for AI assistants (such as Claude). It can analyze images uploaded by users, identify the biological species in them, and provide accurate Latin scientific names and identification confidence. This enables AI assistants to answer various questions about the natural world, such as 'What kind of plant is this?' or 'What kind of insect is this?'

How to use the Nature Vision MCP Server?

It's very simple to use: 1) Configure the server in an AI assistant that supports MCP (such as Claude Desktop); 2) Upload biological images; 3) The AI assistant will automatically call Nature Vision for analysis; 4) Obtain the species identification results and related information. The entire process does not require users to directly operate the command line.

Applicable scenarios

Suitable for scenarios where natural enthusiasts, students, teachers, researchers, gardeners, etc. need to quickly identify biological species. For example, encountering an unknown plant in the wild, discovering an insect in the garden, researching biodiversity, teaching demonstrations, etc.

Main features

Multi-category species identification
Supports the identification of 8 major categories of organisms: plants, insects, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, mollusks, and fungi
Return of scientific names
Provides accurate Latin scientific names to ensure the accuracy of species identification
Confidence score
Provides a confidence score for each identification result to help users understand the reliability of the identification result
AI assistant integration
Designed specifically for the MCP protocol, it seamlessly integrates into AI assistants such as Claude to provide a natural conversation experience
Simple deployment
It can be run with a single command using npx, with simple configuration and no need for complex environment setup
Advantages
๐ŸŒฟ Covers a wide range of biological categories to meet most natural identification needs
๐Ÿงฌ Provides scientifically accurate Latin scientific names to avoid confusion caused by common names
๐Ÿง  Deeply integrated with AI assistants, making the identification process natural and smooth
๐Ÿš€ Simple deployment and quick configuration, suitable for all types of users
๐Ÿ”Œ Based on the standard MCP protocol, with good compatibility
Limitations
๐Ÿ“ท Depends on the image quality. Blurry or poorly angled images may affect the identification accuracy
๐ŸŒ Mainly based on the Nature Vision API database, it may not be able to identify some rare or local species
๐Ÿ”‘ Requires an API key (there is a free trial option)
โฑ๏ธ The free trial version has a limit on the number of requests per minute

How to use

Get an API key
First, you need to obtain a Nature Vision API key. You can use the free trial key: app-dummy-token-2026 (limited to 1 request per minute).
Configure the MCP client
Add the Nature Vision server configuration to the configuration file of an AI assistant that supports MCP (such as Claude Desktop).
Start the AI assistant
Restart the AI assistant, and the Nature Vision function will be automatically available.
Upload an image for identification
Upload a biological image in the conversation, and the AI assistant will automatically call Nature Vision for analysis.

Usage examples

Plant identification
Discover an unknown plant in the garden, take a photo and upload it to ask the AI assistant.
Insect classification
Encounter an insect outdoors and want to know its species and characteristics.
Teaching assistance
Teachers use images to help students understand local biodiversity.
