What is Math SVG MCP?
Math SVG MCP is a Model Context Protocol server dedicated to converting LaTeX mathematical expressions into high-quality SVG vector images. It allows AI assistants (such as Claude) to directly generate visual images of mathematical formulas in conversations, which is very suitable for academic writing, technical documents, and educational materials. How to use Math SVG MCP?
After installation and configuration, you can directly request SVG images of mathematical formulas from the AI assistant. The assistant will automatically convert the LaTeX expressions into SVG and return the image content or save it to the specified file. The entire process is automated, eliminating the need for manual compilation of LaTeX code.Applicable scenarios
• Rendering of mathematical formulas in academic papers and reports • Formula illustrations in technical documents and tutorials • Creation of mathematical content for educational materials • Creation of technical content for blogs and websites • Any scenario that requires high-quality mathematical formula imagesMain features
LaTeX to SVG
Supports the complete LaTeX mathematical syntax, converting complex mathematical expressions into high-quality SVG vector images
Multiple font support
Provides 10 mathematical font options, including the default Latin Modern, STIX Two, Fira Math, etc., to meet different typesetting needs
Flexible size control
Supports multiple units (pt, px, mm, ex) and font size adjustment, allowing precise control of the output image size
Display mode switching
Supports display mode (block-level formulas) and inline mode, adapting to different typesetting contexts
Automatic font caching
Automatically downloads and caches non-default fonts on the first use, eliminating the need for repeated downloads in subsequent uses
Multi-client compatibility
Supports Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and other MCP-compatible clients
Advantages
High-quality output: Generates professional-grade SVG vector images that do not lose quality when scaled
Easy to use: Completely automated after configuration. Users only need to provide LaTeX expressions
Rich fonts: Provides 10 professional mathematical fonts to meet different style needs
Flexible configuration: Supports multiple units, sizes, and display modes
Fast startup: Supports direct running with npx without complex installation
Cross-platform: Based on Node.js, supports Windows, macOS, and Linux
Limitations
Only supports mathematical mode: Focuses on mathematical formulas and does not support complete LaTeX documents
Requires a Node.js environment: Node.js 18 or higher needs to be installed before running
First-time font download: Non-default fonts need to be downloaded on the first use (cached subsequently)
Network dependency: Network connection is required for the first run and font download
How to use
Installation and configuration
Select an appropriate configuration method according to your AI client. The simplest way is to download and open the.mcpb file to automatically configure Claude Desktop.
Restart the client
After saving the configuration file, restart your AI client (such as Claude Desktop) for the configuration to take effect.
Start using
Directly request SVG images of mathematical formulas in the conversation. The AI assistant will automatically call the conversion tool.
Advanced use (optional)
For faster startup, you can install the server globally or use different font and size parameters.
Usage examples
Basic mathematical formulas
Convert simple mathematical formulas into SVG images for use in documents or presentations
Complex integral expressions
Handle complex calculus formulas and generate high-quality mathematical images
Save to file
Save the generated formula image to a specified path for later use
Use a specific font
Select a specific mathematical font for special document requirements
