What is Figma Pilot?
Figma Pilot is an innovative AI assistant tool that allows you to use natural language instructions to control and operate the Figma design software. By combining the code execution ability of AI with the Figma API, you can create, modify, and manage design elements with simple conversations without manually operating the Figma interface. How to use Figma Pilot?
Using Figma Pilot is very simple: First, install the necessary components, then enable it in an AI client that supports the MCP protocol (such as Claude, Cursor, etc.). After that, you can directly tell the AI what design effects you want, and the AI will automatically generate and execute code to implement your design ideas in Figma.Applicable scenarios
Figma Pilot is particularly suitable for scenarios such as rapid prototyping, batch modification of design elements, creation of design system components, automation of design tasks, generation of design variants, and accessibility checks. Whether designers want to iterate quickly or developers need to process design files in batches, they can benefit from it.Main features
Natural language control
You can control Figma with simple natural language instructions without learning complex APIs or manually operating the interface.
Code execution mode
Adopt an innovative code execution mode. The AI directly writes and executes JavaScript code to operate Figma, which is more efficient.
Batch operation ability
Supports batch creation, modification, and deletion of design elements, processing a large number of objects at once and saving time.
Component management
Create, instantiate, and manage design components, and support variant creation and component library management.
Accessibility check
Automatically check whether the design meets the WCAG accessibility standards and provide automatic repair suggestions.
Design token support
Create and manage design tokens to ensure the consistency of the design system.
Advantages
Minimalist tool interface: Only 3 core tools are required, significantly reducing the occupation of the context window.
Efficient batch processing: Supports modifying hundreds of elements at once, improving work efficiency.
Flexible data processing: Can filter and process data in the code, reducing unnecessary information transmission.
Support for complex logic: Supports complex programming logic such as loops and conditional judgments.
Reduced token consumption: Compared with traditional MCP tools, it can reduce token usage by more than 90%.
Limitations
Requires installation of multiple components: You need to install the MCP server, Figma plugin, and AI skills at the same time.
Depends on the Figma desktop application: The Figma desktop version must be running to work properly.
Requires an internet connection: The MCP server and the plugin communicate via HTTP.
Learning curve: Although it is easy to use, understanding its working principle requires a certain technical background.
Port occupation: The default port 38451 may conflict with existing services.
How to use
Install the MCP server
Add Figma Pilot to the MCP configuration according to the AI client you are using. For Claude Code, you can directly use the command line to add it; for other clients, you need to manually edit the configuration file.
Install AI skills
Download the skill file and place it in the skill directory of the AI client. The directory locations of different clients are different. Please select the correct path according to the documentation.
Install the Figma plugin
Download the plugin compressed package from GitHub Releases, unzip it, and import the plugin in Figma. Then run the plugin to ensure the connection is normal.
Verify the connection
Ask about the Figma connection status in the AI client to confirm that all components are correctly installed and can communicate.
Usage examples
Create a login page
Use natural language instructions to create a complete login page, including elements such as titles, forms, and buttons.
Batch modify design elements
Modify all elements of a specific type on the page at once, such as changing the corner radius of all buttons to 8px.
Create design system components
Create reusable design system components based on existing designs or descriptions.
Accessibility check
Automatically check whether the design meets the accessibility standards and fix the discovered problems.
