MCP Variance Log is a versatile tool designed to monitor and record conversation patterns. It comes equipped with a range of features that facilitate effective tracking and management of dialogue data.

Monitoring

• High Priority (Not Recorded): Tracks common interactions without logging.
• Medium Priority (Recorded): Identifies and logs abnormal patterns.
• Low Priority (Emergency): Detects and flags critical events.

Querying

• log-query: View logs.
• read-logs: Filter logs.
• read_query: Execute SELECT queries.
• write_query: Perform INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE operations.
• create_table: Create a table.
• list_tables: Display all tables.
• describe_table: Show table structure.

The database file is located at the relative path data/varlog.db within the installation directory.

📦 Installation

1. Ensure Python 3.10+ and the UV tool are installed.
2. Clone the repository and install the package:

uv pip install -e .

Configuration

Configure the MCP service in Claude Desktop:

1. Open the claude_desktop_config.json file and add the following content:

Troubleshooting

Database Access Issues

• Error: "Unable to connect to the database"
  • Check file permissions.
  • Confirm the path configuration is correct.
  • Ensure the /data directory exists.

Installation Issues

• Error: "Module 'mcp' not found"
  • Run: uv pip install mcp>=1.2.0
• Error: "UV command not found"
  • Install UV: curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

Configuration Issues

• Error: "Unable to start the MCP service"
  • Check the configuration file syntax.
  • Confirm the path separators are correct (use backslashes on Windows).
  • Ensure the UV tool is in the system PATH.
