🚀 Tavily-MCP Project Documentation

This project provides a service that integrates Tavily's capabilities into the Claude desktop application, enabling users to perform network searches and content extraction within the application.

🚀 Quick Start

📦 Installation

Part 1: Install via npm

1. Install Dependencies

   npm install -g tavily-mcp
   

2. Start the Service

   tavily-mcp start
   

3. Verify the Installation If you see an output similar to the following, the installation is successful:

   tavily-mcp is listening...
   

Part 2: Manual Installation

1. Clone the Repository

   git clone https://github.com/tavily-ai/tavily-mcp.git
   cd tavily-mcp
   

2. Install Dependencies

   npm install
   

3. Build the Project

   npm run build
   

⚙️ Configuration

Configure the Tavily-MCP Service in the Claude Desktop Application

1. Edit the Configuration File Find the corresponding configuration file path based on your operating system:

   • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add the Tavily-MCP Service Configuration Add the following content to the configuration file. Remember to replace /path/to/tavily-mcp with your actual path and fill in a valid API key.

3. Save and Restart the Application After completing the configuration, close and reopen the Claude desktop application for the changes to take effect.

💻 Usage

Use the Tavily-MCP Service in the Claude Desktop Application

• After starting the application, a small hammer icon should be displayed at the bottom left, indicating that the MCP tool is available.
• Click the icon to view detailed information about the tavily-search and tavily-extract tools.

Combine the search and extraction tools to perform more complex tasks:

🔧 Troubleshooting

Common Issues

1. Service Not Found

   • Confirm that npm is installed successfully: Run npm --version
   • Check the syntax of the Claude configuration file: Run code ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   • Ensure that Node.js is installed correctly: Run node --version

2. NPX-Related Issues

   • Find the full path of npx: Run which npx
   • Replace "command": "npx" in the configuration file with the full path.

3. API Key Issues

   • Confirm that the API key is valid.
   • Check that the key is correctly entered in the configuration.
   • Ensure that there are no extra spaces or quotes.
