Sentry MCP

🚀 Remote MCP Server

This is a prototype of a remote MCP server, serving as a middleware for the upstream Sentry API provider.

It is based on Cloudflare's work on remote MCP.

Stdio vs Remote

Although this repository is mainly for remote MCP use cases, we also support stdio transport.

⚠️ Important Note

Currently, this is a draft and not available for distribution yet.

You need to ensure your token has the necessary scopes. As of writing, they are:

org:read project:read project:write team:read team:write event:read

You can find the specification reference for the required scopes in the source code.

To start the stdio transport, simply bind SENTRY_AUTH_TOKEN and run the provided script:

SENTRY_AUTH_TOKEN= npm run start:stdio

Self-hosted Sentry

You can set your own Sentry base URL by overriding the SENTRY_URL environment variable:

MCP Inspector

MCP includes an Inspector for easily testing the service:

pnpm inspector

Enter https://[domain].workers.dev/sse (TODO) and click Connect. After completing the authentication process, you'll see the tool working properly.

Accessing the Remote MCP Server from Claude Desktop

Open Claude Desktop, go to Settings, press ⌘ + , (comma) -> Developers -> Edit Configuration. This will open the configuration file that controls the MCP servers Claude can access.

Replace the contents with the following configuration. Once you restart Claude Desktop, a browser window will open showing your OAuth login page. Complete the authentication process to grant Claude access to your MCP server. After granting permission, the tool will appear in the interface for you to use.

Once the tool (under 🔨) appears in the interface, you can ask Claude to use it. For example: "Can you add 23 and 19 using the math tool?" Claude will call the tool and display the result generated by your MCP server.

💻 Local Development

If you want to iterate and test your MCP server, you can do it in a local environment. This requires you to create another OAuth application in Sentry (Settings => API => Applications):

• For the Homepage URL, specify http://localhost:8788.
• For the Authorized Redirect URIs, specify http://localhost:8788/callback.
• Note your Client ID and generate a Client secret.
• Create a .dev.vars file in the project root directory with the following content:

SENTRY_CLIENT_ID=your_development_sentry_client_id
SENTRY_CLIENT_SECRET=your_development_sentry_client_secret

Verification

Run the server locally to make it available at http://localhost:8788:

pnpm dev

To test the local server, enter http://localhost:8788/sse in the Inspector and click Connect. After completing the prompts, you should be able to "List Tools".

Testing

There are two test suites: basic unit tests and some evaluations.

Unit tests can be run using the following command:

pnpm test

Evaluations require an .env file with some configurations:

OAUTH_API_KEY=your_oauth_api_key

Then run the evaluations with the following command:

pnpm lint

⚠️ Important Note

The evaluation script checks for code quality and formatting issues.

💡 Usage Tip

• The project is written in TypeScript, so make sure you have Node.js and npm installed.
• Use pnpm for dependency management. If you're not familiar with pnpm, please read its documentation first.
• The project includes a .gitignore file to exclude unnecessary files and directories.
