🚀 Wikidata MCP Server

A Wikidata API server implemented using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This project provides tools for interacting with Wikidata, such as searching for identifiers (entities and properties), extracting metadata (labels and descriptions), and executing SPARQL queries.

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

To automatically install the Wikidata MCP Server for Claude Desktop via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @zzaebok/mcp-wikidata --client claude

Manual Installation

If uv is not installed yet, install it first:

$ curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

Then install the dependencies:

$ git clone https://github.com/zzaebok/mcp-wikidata.git
$ cd mcp-wikidata
$ uv sync
# If you want to run the client example together
$ uv sync --extra example

💻 Usage Examples

Running the Server

Run the server using the following command:

$ uv run src/server.py

Testing with Client Code

If you want to test with simple client code (used with langchain-mcp-adapters), run the client in another terminal window:

$ uv run src/client.py

The LLM extracts valid entity and property identifiers, executes SPARQL queries, and finally recommends a movie directed by Bong Joon-ho.
