🚀 Strava MCP Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides access to the Strava API. It allows language models to query the activity data of authenticated athletes.

The server exposes the following tools:

Activity Queries

• get_activities(limit: int = 10): Get the most recent activities of an authenticated athlete.
• get_activities_by_date_range(start_date: str, end_date: str, limit: int = 30): Get activities within a specific date range.
• get_activity_by_id(activity_id: int): Get detailed information about a specific activity.
• get_recent_activities(days: int = 7, limit: int = 10): Get activities from the past X days.

Dates should be provided in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD).

📦 Installation

Authentication

To use this server, you need to authenticate through the Strava API. Follow these steps:

1. Create a Strava API application:

   • Go to Strava API Settings.
   • Create an application to get your Client ID and Client Secret.
   • Set the authorization callback domain to localhost.

2. Get your refresh token:

   • Use the included get_strava_token.py script:

     python get_strava_token.py
     

   • Follow the prompts to enter your Strava credentials and obtain the refresh token.

3. Set environment variables:

   • Add the following to your .env file or corresponding configuration file:

     STRAVA_REFRESH_TOKEN=your_refresh_token_here
     

Configure the MCP Server

Depending on the language model you're using (Claude Desktop or Web), follow these steps to configure:

Claude Desktop

1. Open ~/.config/anthropic/claude/settings.json.
2. Add the Strava plugin under "mcp":

       "refresh_token": "your_refresh_token"
     }
   }
   

3. Save the file and restart Claude.

Claude Web

1. Visit Claude Web.
2. Go to the settings page.
3. Add the Strava plugin in the MCP section:
   • API Key: your_api_key
   • Refresh Token: your_refresh_token

⚠️ Important Note

• Ensure the security of your API key and refresh token to avoid leakage.
• Regularly update the refresh token to prevent expiration.
• When handling errors, refer to the error handling section in the documentation.
