Connect your Supabase projects with AI assistants like Cursor, Claude, and Windsurf.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) standardizes the communication between large language models (LLMs) and external services such as Supabase. It enables LLMs to directly connect to your Supabase projects and perform various operations, including project management, database operations, and code generation.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have the following:

• A valid Supabase account.
• Node.js and npm installed and configured.
• Familiarity with the command-line interface (CLI).

Setup

Create a Personal Access Token

1. Log in to your Supabase console.
2. Navigate to the "Settings" > "Security" > "Access Control" section.
3. Click "Create Token" and name your token (e.g., mcp-server-token).
4. Select the required permissions and click "Create".

Configure the MCP Client

Save the following content to a file (e.g., config.json) and fill in your Supabase account information:

Here are the Supabase tools provided by MCP and their functions:

Project Management

• list_projects: List all the user's Supabase projects.
• get_project: Get detailed information about a specified project.
• create_project: Create a new Supabase project.
• pause_project: Pause a specified project.
• restore_project: Restore a paused project.
• list_organizations: List all the organizations the user belongs to.
• get_organization: Get detailed information about a specified organization.

Database Operations

• list_tables: List all tables in a specified schema.
• list_extensions: List all extensions in the database.
• list_migrations: List all migrations in the database.
• apply_migration: Apply SQL migrations to the database. LLMs should use this tool for DDL operations (schema changes).
• execute_sql: Execute raw SQL queries. LLMs can use this tool for regular queries without changing the schema.
• get_logs: Get project logs for a specified service type (api, postgres, edge functions, authentication, storage, real-time). LLMs can use this tool for debugging and service performance monitoring.

Project Configuration

• get_project_url: Get the API URL of a project.
• get_anon_key: Get the anonymous API key of a project.

Branches (Experimental, requires a paid plan)

• create_branch: Create a development branch from the production branch.
• list_branches: List all development branches.
• delete_branch: Delete a specified development branch.
• merge_branch: Merge migrations and edge functions from a development branch into the production environment.
• reset_branch: Reset the migration history of a development branch to a previous version.
• rebase_branch: Rebase a development branch on the production branch to resolve migration drift issues.

Development Tools

• generate_typescript_types: Generate TypeScript types based on the database schema. LLMs can save this content to a file and use it in their code.

Cost Confirmation

• get_cost: Get a cost estimate for a new project or branch.
• confirm_cost: Confirm the user's understanding of the cost for a new project or branch. This is a required step for creating a new project or branch.
