🚀 MCP Browser Tabs

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is used to retrieve and manage information about Chrome browser tabs. This allows Claude Desktop (or other MCP clients) to retrieve information about currently open Chrome tabs and control them.

🚀 Quick Start (Users)

To use this tool with Claude Desktop, simply add the following content to your Claude Desktop configuration file (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json):

This will automatically download and run the latest version of the tool when needed.

⚙️ Required Settings

1. Enable Chrome's accessibility features:
   • Open System Settings.
   • Go to "Privacy & Security" > "Accessibility".
   • Click the "+" button.
   • Add Google Chrome from the Applications folder.
   • Enable the toggle switch next to Chrome.

This accessibility setting is required so that AppleScript can interact with Chrome tabs.

📋 Prerequisites

• Node.js 18+
• macOS (for AppleScript operations)
• Google Chrome
• Claude Desktop (installed from https://claude.ai/desktop)
• tsx (installed via npm install -g tsx)

📦 Installation

💻 Available Tools

• get_tabs: Retrieve all open tabs from the Google Chrome browser, returning the title and URL. Tabs are grouped by window and displayed in the format "Window 1-1" (Window 1, Tab 1).

• close_tab: Close a specific tab in Google Chrome using the window index and tab index.

  • Parameters:
    • windowIndex: Window number (starting from 1).
    • tabIndex: Tab number within the window (starting from 1).
  • Note: When closing multiple tabs, start with the highest index number to avoid index offset. After closing a tab, use get_tabs to confirm the changes.

⚠️ Important Note

• This tool is designed specifically for macOS because it relies on AppleScript.
• Google Chrome must be installed and running.
• Chrome must be granted accessibility permissions.
