Interact with Jira via natural language to retrieve project information and modify your projects. Combine it with the Claude desktop and create a custom README containing project information so that you can delegate PM tasks (e.g., if you have a list of team members and their expertise, you can assign any new issues to the most relevant person).

This server is built on the Model Context Protocol.

📦 Installation

Configuration

Required environment variables:

• JIRA_HOST: The hostname of your Jira instance
• JIRA_EMAIL: The email of your Jira account
• JIRA_API_TOKEN: The API token from https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens

📚 Documentation

Description Field Formats

The description field supports the following formats:

• Headings: Use # to mark headings, e.g., # This is a heading
• Paragraphs: Simply enter text, e.g., This is a paragraph.
• Lists: Use - to create unordered lists, e.g.:
  • First list item
  • Second list item
• Code Blocks: Enclose code with backticks ```, e.g.:

  console.log("Hello, World!");
  

• Emphasis: Use * or _ to create emphasized text, e.g., *This is emphasized text*
• Links: Use [Text](URL) to create hyperlinks, e.g., [Visit the official website](https://www.example.com)

Error Handling

• 400 Error: Incorrect request format or missing parameters
• 401 Error: Unauthorized. Check if the API token is valid
• 404 Error: Resource not found
• 500 Error: Internal server error

Setup Instructions

To use this MCP server with the Claude desktop:

1. Locate your Claude desktop configuration file:
   • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   • Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
2. Add the Jira MCP server to your configuration:
