An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server designed for interacting with IDA and automating related tasks. This server offers tools to read IDA databases via large language models.

Please note that the mcp-server-ida is currently in its early development stage. The features and available tools may change and expand as we continue to improve and evolve the server.

⚠️ Important Note

The idalib mode is under development. There's no need to install the IDA plugin or run IDA (idalib can be used from IDA Pro 9.0+).

📦 Installation

Using uv (Recommended)

When using uv, no specific installation is required. We'll use uvx to directly run mcp-server-ida.

Using PIP

Alternatively, you can install mcp-server-ida via pip:

pip install mcp-server-ida

After installation, you can run it as a script using the following command:

python -m mcp_server_ida

IDA Side

Copy the repository/plugin/ida_mcp_server_plugin.py and the repository/plugin/ida_mcp_server_plugin directory to IDA's plugin directory.

Windows: %APPDATA%\Hex-Rays\IDA Pro\plugins Linux/macOS: $HOME/.idapro/plugins, e.g., ~/.idapro/plugins

Configuration

Using Claude Desktop

Add the following content to your claude_desktop_config.json:

Debugging

You can use the MCP inspection tool to debug the server. For uvx installation:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uvx mcp-server-ida

Or if you've installed the package in a specific directory or are developing it:

cd path/to/mcp-server-ida/src
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uv run mcp-server-ida

Running tail -n 20 -f ~/Library/Logs/Claude/mcp*.log will display the server's logs, which may be helpful for debugging any issues.

Development

If you're developing locally, there are two ways to test your changes:

1. Use the MCP inspection tool to test your changes. Refer to Debugging for running instructions.
2. Test in the Claude desktop application. Add the following content to your claude_desktop_config.json:
