🚀 mcp-editor

This is a direct port of Anthropic's file system editing tool from their computer use demo to a TypeScript MCP server. It was mostly written by Claude Sonnet 3.5 under the (possibly insufficient) supervision of Roo Cline (now Roo Code). I've checked the code and use this server daily, but there may be bugs or AI oddities.

I recommend using it in conjunction with mcp-server-commands on this server.

• WARNING: This MCP server has no access control and relies entirely on the client's approval mechanism. Use this server at your own risk. Do not automatically approve write operations, as this essentially gives the LLM the power to damage your computer.
• WARNING: This MCP server is not actively maintained and is provided only as a reference (e.g., for creating a custom MCP server with proper access control). I may update it occasionally.

📦 Installation

Get the files on your computer. Run the following commands:

npm install
npm build

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

If you use the Claude desktop app, paste the following under "mcpServers" and edit the path to match where you placed mcp-editor:
