🚀 Linear MCP Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides tools to interact with Linear's API, enabling AI agents to programmatically manage issues, projects, and teams on the Linear platform.

🚀 Quick Start

1. Obtain your Linear API key from Linear's developer settings.

2. Run the server with your API key:

LINEAR_API_KEY=your-api-key npx @ibraha7m/linear-mcp-server

• Issue Management

  • Create new issues with customizable attributes (title, description, team, assignee, priority, labels).
  • List issues with flexible filtering options (team, assignee, status).
  • Update existing issues (title, description, status, assignee, priority).

• Team Management

  • List all teams in the workspace.
  • Access team details, including ID, name, key, and description.

• Project Management

  • List all projects, with optional team filtering.
  • View project details, including name, description, status, and associated team.

📦 Installation

Install via npm:

npm install -g @ibraha7m/linear-mcp-server

Prerequisites

• Node.js (v16 or higher)
• A Linear account with API access
• A Linear API key with appropriate permissions

Configuration

Environment Variables

Set the following environment variables:

• LINEAR_ACCESS_TOKEN: Your Linear API access token.
• PORT (optional): The port on which the server runs, default is 3000.

Usage

# Development mode (auto-rebuild)
npm run dev

# Production mode
npm start

🔧 Technical Details

• Uses TypeScript and the Linear SDK (@linear/sdk v37.0.0).
• MCP SDK (@modelcontextprotocol/sdk v0.6.0).

The server communicates using standard input and output and implements the Model Context Protocol for seamless integration with AI agents.
