A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for interacting with the Strava API.

📦 Installation

You can easily install Strava MCP via uvox:

uvox strava-mcp

Setting up Strava Credentials

1. Create a Strava API Application:

   • Visit https://www.strava.com/settings/api.
   • Create a new application to obtain your Client ID and Client Secret.
   • For the "Authorization Callback Domain", enter localhost.

2. Configure Your Credentials: Create a credentials file (e.g., ~/.ssh/strava.sh):

   export STRAVA_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id
   export STRAVA_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret
   

3. Configure Claude Desktop: Add the following to the ~/.config/autocad/settings.json file:

   {
     "stravaClientId": "your_client_id",
     "stravaClientSecret": "your_client_secret"
   }
   

Authentication Process

The first time you use it, the system will automatically initiate the authentication process. The browser will open the Strava authorization page. After completing the authorization, the server will save the refresh_token for subsequent use.

Available Tools

• Get User Activities: List user activities.
• Get a Single Activity: Get detailed information by activity ID.
• Get Activity Segments: Get the segments of an activity by activity ID.
• Get Segment Leaderboard: Get the leaderboard of a segment by segment ID.

Parameter Description

• include_all_efforts: Whether to include all efforts (default is false).
• per_page: The number of items displayed per page (default is 50, maximum is 100).

Project Setup

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/yorrickjansen/strava-mcp.git
   cd strava-mcp
   

2. Install dependencies:

   pip install -r requirements.txt
   

3. Configure environment variables:

   export STRAVA_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id
   export STRAVA_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret
   

Running in Development Mode

uv serve --reload

Manual Authentication

Run the following command to manually obtain the refresh_token:

python -m strava_mcp.auth

Project Structure

• strava_mcp/init.py: Initialization module.
• strava_mcp/auth.py: Handle the authentication process.
• strava_mcp/routes.py: Define API routes.

Use pytest for testing:
