The Spotify-MCP project aims to connect Claude to Spotify. It is built on the spotipy-dev's API.

📦 Installation

Obtain Spotify API Keys

Create an account at developer.spotify.com. Navigate to the Dashboard. Create an app and set the redirect URI to http://localhost:8888. (You can choose any port, but you must use http and localhost). I set the "API used" to "Web Playback SDK".

Run the Project Locally

This project is not configured for ephemeral environments (e.g., for use with uvx). Run this project locally by cloning the repository.

Add this tool as an MCP server.

Troubleshooting

If you can't get this MCP to work properly, open an issue. Here are some tips:

1. Ensure that uv is up to date. I recommend using version >=0.54.
2. Ensure that Claude has execution permissions for the project: chmod -R 755.
3. Ensure that you have a Spotify Premium subscription (required to run the developer API).

This MCP will output logs to standard error (as specified by the MCP specification). On Macs, the Claude Desktop app will send these logs to ~/Library/Logs/Claude. On other platforms, you can find the logs here.

You can launch this MCP using the Inspector via npm:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uv --directory /path/to/spotify_mcp run spotify-mcp

After launching, the Inspector will display a URL in the browser for you to start debugging.
