🚀 Mathematica Documentation MCP Server

This project uses the mcp-python-sdk to create a server for Mathematica documentation.

🚀 Quick Start

Requirements

Run pip install -r requirements.txt and install Mathematica (or at least ensure that wolframscript can be called from the terminal, for example, through the free Wolfram Engine Developer Edition).

Initialize the Server

Run mcp dev path/to/mcp-mma-doc.py to initialize the server.

Install to Claude

To install it to Claude, run mcp install path/to/mcp-mma-doc.py, or add the following content to the Claude or cline configuration:

⚠️ Important Note

Currently, using uv with mcp may break Claude-desktop on some Linux/macOS versions. You may need to set it as follows:

where /path/to/mcp is obtained by running which mcp in the terminal.

✨ Customize the Installation Path of Wolframscript

If you need a custom wolframscript path or it is not in the system path, you can set it through an environment variable:

export WOLFRAMSCRIPT_PATH="/usr/bin/wolframscript"

Or set it as the env key in the MCP configuration:

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

The plugin provides the following commands:

get_docs

This command supports factory functions, functions loaded through Addons, and functions loaded through packages.

# Basic usage
get_docs("Plot")

# Include packages
get_docs("WeightSystem", packages=["LieART"])

# Include Addons
get_docs("FCFeynmanParametrize", packages=["FeynCalc"], load_addons=["FeynArts"])

list_package_symbols

This command lists all symbols/functions in a package.

# Basic usage
list_package_symbols("FeynCalc")

📚 Known Issues

• If you see messages like INFO Processing request of type __init__.py:431 ListToolsRequest in cline, you can ignore them because they do not affect function calls. This is because cline parses the tool list and console debugging information together, and the current python-sdk cannot disable console messages. This will not affect any other functional call parts except that you will see this warning.
• Some MMA documents may contain complex formatting styles, and it is not easy to remove them through simple regular expressions. Your LLM may be affected by these styles. Please instruct it to ignore these styles and write only in InputForm.
