The MCP Notification Server is designed to send system desktop notifications and play reminder sounds after proxy tasks are completed. It supports multiple platforms and integrates with various LLM clients based on the standard MCP protocol.

📦 Installation

Install using the uv package manager

cd mcp_server_notify

uv venv
source .venv/Scripts/activate

uv pip install mcp-server-notify
# Or
pip install mcp-server-notify

After installation, directly call the module to check if the installation was successful:

python -m mcp_server_notify

This module accepts the --debug or --file options. We can use it as follows:

python -m mcp_server_notify --debug
python -m mcp_server_notify --debug --log-file=path/to/logfile.log

Special Requirements

We use the Apprise API to send desktop notifications, so there are some special requirements for desktop installation.

Windows

After configuration, simply add a prompt like Please notify me when the task is completed. at the end of the task input to trigger the notification.

In Cursor, you can add this prompt as a rule in Cursor Settings -> Rules, so you don't have to enter it manually each time.

Run with Docker

Due to environment compatibility issues, it is currently unavailable. If a Docker container needs to trigger host notifications regardless of whether the host OS is Windows, macOS, or Linux, the solution becomes much more complex, and it is usually not feasible to use native notifications directly.

Main issues:

1. OS - specific notification mechanisms Each operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) has its own unique notification mechanism.

2. Docker isolation The isolation of Docker containers limits their ability to directly access host operating system resources.

3. Dependency management It is necessary to handle the notification libraries and dependencies of each operating system.
