📦 Installation

Ensure that Claude Desktop and npm are installed.

Installation via Smithery

To automatically install the Obsidian Model Context Protocol via Smithery:

npx @smithery/cli install mcp-obsidian --client claude

Then restart Claude Desktop, and you should see the following MCP tools:

Usage in VS Code

For quick installation, you can use one of the following one-click installation buttons:

To install manually, add the following JSON block to your VS Code user settings (JSON) file. You can do this by pressing Ctrl + Shift + P and entering Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON).

Optionally, you can add it to the .vscode/mcp.json file in your workspace. This will allow you to share the configuration with other users.

⚠️ Important Note

The mcp key is not required in the .vscode/mcp.json file.
