🚀 Google Chat MCP Server

This project offers Google Chat integration for the MCP (Model Control Protocol) server, written in Python and FastMCP. It enables you to access and interact with spaces and messages in Google Chat via MCP tools, allowing you to view and manage your Google Chat data, including spaces and messages.

🚀 Quick Start

Prepare for Google OAuth Login

1. Clone the project:

   git clone https://github.com/chy168/google-chat-mcp-server.git
   cd google-chat-mcp-server
   

2. Create a Google Cloud project (GCP).
3. Visit the Google Cloud Console (https://console.cloud.google.com/auth/overview?project=<YOUR_PROJECT_NAME>).
4. Create a web application type client in "Authentication Platform > Clients > (+) Create Client":
   • Reference documentation: https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/oauth2/?hl=en
   • Add the authorized JavaScript origin: http://localhost:8000
   • Add the authorized redirect URI: http://localhost:8000/auth/callback
5. After creating the OAuth 2.0 client, download the client credentials file (in .json format) and save it as credentials.json in the project root directory.

Run the Authentication Server and Obtain Google Access Tokens

python server.py -local-auth --port 8000

• Open your browser and visit http://localhost:8000/auth.
• Log in with your Google account!
• After logging in, your access token will be saved as token.json.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.8+

Project Structure

This project consists of two main components:

1. MCP Server with Google Chat Tools: Provides tools for interacting with Google Chat.

   • Written in FastMCP.
   • server.py: Implements the main MCP service, integrating Google Chat tools.
   • google_chat.py: Handles Google Chat API integration and authentication.

2. Authentication Server: An independent component for Google account authentication.

   • Written in FastAPI.
   • Manages the OAuth2 interaction process with Google.
   • Stores and manages access tokens.
   • Can be run independently or as part of the MCP service.
   • server_auth.py: Implements the authentication server.

Through the authentication process, you can obtain and refresh Google API tokens, which are used by MCP tools to access Google Chat data (your spaces and messages).

Provided Tools

The MCP server offers the following tools:

• get_chat_spaces(): Lists all accessible Google Chat spaces.
• get_space_messages(space_name: str, start_date: str, end_date: str = None): Retrieves messages from a specific Google Chat space, supporting date range filtering.
