📦 Installation

Install the MCP 3D Printer Server using npm:

npm install mcp-3d-printer-server

Start the MCP service with the following command:

STL Operations

Basic Usage

• Load an STL file:

mcp load-stl <file path>

• List loaded STL files:

mcp list-stl

• Save the current STL file:

mcp save-stl --name <name> [--output <output directory>]

Modification Operations

• Cut the model (XY plane):

mcp cut-stl --plane XY --at Z=0.5

• Cut the model (XZ plane):

mcp cut-stl --plane XZ --at Y=1.5

• Cut the model (YZ plane):

mcp cut-stl --plane YZ --at X=2.0

• Extend the base:

mcp extend-base <length>

Visualization

• Generate an SVG image:

mcp visualize-svg --output <output path>

• Inspect the STL model information:

mcp inspect-stl

G-code Processing

• Confirm temperature settings:

mcp confirm-temps <gcode file> [--extruder-temp 200] [--bed-temp 60]

• Verify a G-code file:

mcp verify-gcode <gcode file>

Printing

• Start a print job:

mcp start-print --gcodes-dir /path/to/gcodes --file-name print.gcode --print-name MyPrint --md5 hashvalue

📋 Example Workflow

1. Load an STL file:

mcp load-stl model.stl

2. Extend the base:

mcp extend-base 2.0

3. Save the modified STL file:

mcp save-stl --name modified-model

4. Generate G-code:

mcp generate-gcode --slicer prusaslicer --output sliced.gcode

5. Confirm temperature settings:

mcp confirm-temps sliced.gcode --extruder-temp 200 --bed-temp 60

🖨️ Supported Printers

Bambu Lab Printer Limitations

Due to the nature of the Bambu Lab printer API, the following limitations exist:

1. Starting a print job: Requires the path to a 3MF project file, the G-code file name, the print name, and the MD5 hash. The current simplified API does not fully support this.
2. Temperature control: The Bambu API does not provide a direct method to set temperatures. This requires custom G-code commands.
3. File management: Files must be uploaded to the printer's "gcodes" directory.

⚠️ Limitations and Notes

Memory Usage

• Large STL files: Processing large or complex STL files consumes a significant amount of memory.
• Multi-step operations: Continuously performing multiple STL operations (especially on large files) may cause memory leaks.
• Long-term operation: Running the server for an extended period may affect system performance.

Other Notes

• Data persistence: All modifications are only retained in memory and will not be saved after the server is shut down.
• Error handling: More exception handling and logging functions need to be added.
