🚀 Quick Start Guide (Claude Desktop)

This guide provides a step-by-step process to quickly get started with Claude Desktop using ElevenLabs.

Steps to Get Started

1. Obtain your API key from ElevenLabs. The free tier offers 10,000 credits per month.
2. Install uv (a Python package manager) using the command curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh, or refer to the uv repository for other installation methods.
3. Open Claude > Settings > Developer > Edit Configuration > claude_desktop_config.json, and add the following content:

If you are using Windows, make sure to enable "Developer Mode" in Claude Desktop to use the MCP server. Click the hamburger icon on the left side of the menu bar, select "Help", and then choose "Enable Developer Mode".

✨ Other MCP Clients

For other clients like Cursor and Windsurf, follow these steps:

1. Run pip install elevenlabs-mcp.
2. Run python -m elevenlabs_mcp --api-key={{PUT_YOUR_API_KEY_HERE}} --print to get the configuration. Paste it into the specified configuration directory of your MCP client.

After these steps, your MCP client can use ElevenLabs.

Timeout Issues with Some Tools

Some API operations with ElevenLabs (such as voice design and audio isolation) may take a long time. When using the MCP tool checker in development mode, you may encounter timeout errors even though the tool has completed its intended task.

This does not happen when using clients like Claude.

MCP ElevenLabs: spawn uvx ENOENT Error

If you encounter the error "MCP ElevenLabs: spawn uvx ENOENT", confirm its absolute path. Run the following command:

which uvx

After getting the absolute path (e.g., /usr/local/bin/uvx), update your configuration to use this path (e.g., "command": "/usr/local/bin/uvx"). This ensures that the correct executable file is referenced.

🤝 Contribution Guidelines

1. Copy .env.example to .env and add your ElevenLabs API key:

2. Run tests to ensure everything works correctly:

3. Install the server in Claude Desktop: mcp install elevenlabs_mcp/server.py
