A Model Content Protocol (MCP) server that provides tools to search and retrieve academic papers from the PubMed database.

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

Automatically install the pubmed-search-mcp-server for Claude Desktop through Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @gradusnikov/pubmed-search-mcp-server --client claude

Manual Installation

1. Clone this repository:

   git clone <repository-url>
   cd pubmed-search-mcp-server
   

2. Install dependencies:

   pip install fastmcp requests python-dotenv
   

3. Create a .env file in the project root directory (if configuration is required).

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

1. Start the server in development mode:

   mcp dev pubmed_search_mcp_server.py
   

2. Or add the server to the Claude Desktop application CLAUDE_DIRECTORY/claude_desktop_config.json. For example, if you are using Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), it might look like this:
