💻 Usage Examples

Use with Claude Desktop Version

To use it with Claude desktop version, add the following content to claude_desktop_config.json. The full path for MacOS is ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json, and for Windows is %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json.

Configuration

If you run multiple IDEs and want to connect to a specific one, add the following to the MCP server configuration:

By default, we connect to the IDE at 127.0.0.1, but you can specify a different address/host:

Troubleshooting

Node.js Version Requirement

Problem: Error message: Cannot find module 'node:path' Solution: MCP Proxy does not run on Node.js 16. Upgrade Node.js to version 18 or higher. Make sure the command in the configuration points to the correct Node.js version. Try using the full path of the latest Node.js version.

MacOS: Failed to Detect Node.js Installed via nvm

Problem: On MacOS, if you installed Node.js via nvm (Node Version Manager), the MCP server plugin may not detect your Node.js installation. Solution: Create a symbolic link to /usr/local/bin pointing to your nvm npx executable:

This one - liner checks if npx exists in your path, creates the necessary symbolic link, and sets the appropriate permissions.

Use MCP with External Clients or Docker Containers (e.g., LibreChat, Cline, etc.)

Problem: When trying to connect to the JetBrains MCP proxy from an external client, Docker container, or other third - party applications (e.g., LibreChat), the request may fail. For example, http://host.docker.internal:6365/api/mcp/list_tools returns a 404 error. Solution:

1. Enable external connections: In your JetBrains IDE, enable "Can accept external connections" in "Settings | Build, Execution, Debug | Debugger".
2. Use LAN IP and port configuration: Use your machine's LAN IP address instead of host.docker.internal. Explicitly set the IDE's port and host address. Example configuration for LibreChat or other similar external clients:

Replace: YOUR_IDEA_PORT with the debugging port of your IDE (found in the IDE settings). YOUR_IDEA_LAN_IP with the local network IP address of your computer (e.g., 192.168.0.12).

3. Run pnpm build to build the project.
