This Substack Reader is designed to help you easily access and read articles from the Trade Companion newsletter. Here's how to get started.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

1. Python 3.8 or higher.
2. The uv package manager for Python.
3. Claude AI assistant.

Installation Guide

1. Install the uv package manager if it's not already installed using the following command:

curl -sSf https://install.ultraviolet.dev | sh

2. Create and activate a virtual environment:

uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # For Windows users, run: .venv\Scripts\activate

3. Install dependencies using the pyproject.toml file:

uv pip install -e .

Substack Authentication Setup

To access subscriber - exclusive content, you need to provide your Substack cookies:

1. Install the Cookie - Editor extension in your browser:
   • Chrome Web Store
   • [Firefox Add - on](https://addons.mozilla.org/en - US/firefox/addon/cookie - editor/)
2. Log in to your Substack account at tradecompanion.substack.com.
3. Click on the Cookie - Editor extension icon.
4. Click "Export" and select "Export as JSON" (this will copy the cookies to your clipboard).
5. Create a file named substack_cookies.json in the project root directory.
6. Paste the copied cookies into this file and save it.

💻 Usage Examples

Using with Claude

This tool is designed to be used with the Claude AI assistant. To set it up:

1. Add the following content to your Claude configuration file to configure Claude to use this MCP server:

Replace /path/to/substack_reader with the actual path to your substack_reader directory.

2. After configuration, when you start Claude, it will automatically connect to this MCP server.
3. Then you can ask Claude to retrieve the latest Trade Companion articles.

📄 Privacy Statement

Your Substack cookies are stored locally in the substack_cookies.json file and are only used to authenticate requests to Substack. They will not be sent anywhere else or leaked in any form.
