🚀 Quick Start

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implemented in Python, designed to interact with .ged files (GEDCOM files commonly found on Ancestry.com).

• Read and parse .ged files.
• Rename .ged files.
• Search for specific individuals, families, and other information in .ged files.

⚠️ Important Note

The operations of this server are limited to the directory specified by args.

Tools

• list_files

  • List one or more .ged files in the specified directory.
  • Input: name (string).

• rename_file

  • Rename one or more .ged files in the specified directory.
  • Input:
    • file_name (string): Old file name.
    • new_name (string): New file name.

• view_file

  • Parse and read the complete content of the specified .ged file.
  • Can parse and read multiple files.
  • Can obtain specific information from the file, such as birth dates, marriage dates, etc.
  • Input: name (string).

Using Claude Desktop

Installation via Smithery

To automatically install the Ancestry GEDCOM server via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install mcp-server-ancestry --client claude

Manual Installation

1. First, install the package: pip install mcp-server-ancestry

2. Add the following content to your claude_desktop_config.json file:
