🚀 Quick Start

The Harvester MCP Server is a Go implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), specifically designed for Harvester HCI. It allows AI assistants such as Claude Desktop and Cursor to perform CRUD operations on Harvester clusters, which are essentially Kubernetes clusters with Harvester-specific CRDs.

📦 Installation

Installation Steps

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/your-repository/harvester-mcp-server.git
   cd harvester-mcp-server
   

2. Install dependencies:

   • Use Go modules to manage dependencies:

     go mod tidy
     

3. Build the binary:

   go build -o bin/harvester-mcp-server ./cmd/harvester-mcp-server/
   

Configure the MCP Server

1. Configure environment variables:

   • Set the path to the Kubernetes configuration file:

     export KUBECONFIG=/path/to/your/kubeconfig.yaml
     

   • Set the log level (optional):

     export LOG_LEVEL=info
     

2. Start the server:

   ./bin/harvester-mcp-server --kubeconfig /path/to/kubeconfig.yaml --log-level info
   

💻 Usage Examples

Use with Claude Desktop

1. Edit the configuration file:

   • Open ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json.

   • Add the Harvester MCP Server to mcpServers:

2. Restart Claude Desktop:

   • After completing the configuration, restart Claude Desktop to apply the changes.

3. Use MCP features:

   • You can now use the Harvester MCP features in Claude Desktop.

Add New Features

1. Add a new resource type:

   • Add a new resource type in pkg/kubernetes/types.go.

2. Implement a formatter:

   • Implement a formatter for the new resource in the corresponding formatting file.

3. Register the tool:

   • Register the new tool using the unified resource handler in the registerTools method of pkg/mcp/server.go.
