This project is a server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), providing a tool to search for government grants information by keywords.

📋 Overview

The Government Grants Search MCP Server is built using the @modelcontextprotocol/sdk package. It offers a tool named "search-grants" that allows users to search for available government grants information by keywords.

This server interacts with the Simpler Grants API to fetch grant data and format the results for display.

The MCP retrieves data from the Simpler Grants API. Currently, this API is in its testing version, mainly for the testing and feedback phase. It provides a range of functions, including searching for opportunities, retrieving agency information, and accessing detailed grant information, all presented in a user - friendly format.

The API supports various search filters, such as agency, applicant type, grant category, etc., and offers pagination options to manage large result sets effectively.

📦 Installation and Configuration

1. Clone the repository and navigate to the project directory.
2. Install the required dependencies:
   • Node.js 16 or higher.
   • npm install
3. Set the environment variable API_KEY with your Simpler Grants API key.
4. Start the MCP server:

   npm start
   

Once the server starts, it will run and listen for incoming MCP client connections.

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

Once the server is up and running, you can connect to it using an MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop).

To use the "search - grants" tool, send a request with the following parameters:

• query: Search keywords (e.g., "Artificial Intelligence", "Climate Change").
• page: Page number (default: 1).
• grantsPerPage: Number of grants to display per page (default: 3).

The server will return a formatted summary of the search results, including detailed grant information.

🛠️ Customization

You can customize the server by modifying the following:

• formatGrantDetails: A function for formatting the display of grant information.
• createSummary: A function for generating the summary of search results.
• API_KEY: The Simpler Grants API key for authentication.
