This README will guide you through the features, installation, connection methods, and other aspects of the MCP Server.

✨ Features

This server offers two main tools:

1. Network Connection (SSE): The server listens for connections on a specified network port.
2. Direct Connection (stdio): The server communicates via standard input/output.

📦 Installation

🐋 Using Docker (Recommended)

1. Pull the Docker image:

   docker pull mcp-server:latest
   

2. Run the server container:

   • Using default settings:

     docker run --rm -it mcp-server:latest
     

   • Customizing ports and environment variables:

     docker run --rm -e SEARXNG_QUERY_URL="http://your-searxng-instance.local:8080" -p 3001:3001 mcp-server:latest
     

💻 Running Locally

1. Create and activate a virtual environment:

   uv venv
   source .venv/bin/activate  # Linux/macOS
   # Or
   .venv\Scripts\activate     # Windows
   

2. Install dependencies:

   uv sync
   

3. Set environment variables:

   export SEARXNG_QUERY_URL="http://your-searxng-instance.local:8080"
   export USER_AGENT="CustomAgent/1.0"
   

4. Run the server:

   • Network mode (SSE):

     mcp-server --sse-host 0.0.0.0 --sse-port 3001
     

   • Direct connection mode (stdio):

     mcp-server
     

Available Parameters

• --sse-host: SSE listening address (e.g., 0.0.0.0). Enables SSE mode.
• --sse-port: SSE listening port (e.g., 3001). Enables SSE mode.
• --user-agent: Custom User-Agent string (overrides the USER_AGENT environment variable).

⚠️ Important Note

If --sse-host or --sse-port is not provided (and the SSE_HOST/SSE_PORT environment variables are not set), the server will default to stdio mode. The SEARXNG_QUERY_URL environment variable is always required.

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

If you want to quickly start the server using Docker with default settings, you can use the following command:

docker run --rm -it mcp-server:latest

Advanced Usage

If you need to customize the port and environment variables, you can use the following command:

docker run --rm -e SEARXNG_QUERY_URL="http://your-searxng-instance.local:8080" -p 3001:3001 mcp-server:latest
