What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server?

The MCP server is a tool for connecting AI assistants (such as Cursor AI) with Blender, allowing you to generate 3D models, modify materials, and manipulate scenes through AI.

How to use the MCP server?

Simply install and start the MCP server, then configure the connection in Cursor AI or other clients to start using it.

Applicable Scenarios

Suitable for users who need to quickly generate 3D models, adjust materials, or perform scene design, especially for creative design and AI-assisted workflows.

Main Features

Two-way Communication
Support real-time interaction between AI assistants and Blender through Socket connection.
Object Operation
Create, modify, or delete 3D objects, and support complex scene management.
Material Control
Apply and adjust material properties to achieve dynamic visual effects.
Scene Inspection
Get detailed information about the current Blender scene, including the number of objects and performance metrics.
Code Execution
Run custom Python scripts to extend functionality.
Real-time Preview
View effect changes through the continuously updated viewport image.
Advantages
Seamlessly integrate the workflows of AI assistants and Blender
Support multiple advanced functions, such as material editing and real-time preview
Open source and easy to extend
Limitations
Requires a certain foundation in Python to write custom scripts
Has certain requirements for hardware performance

How to Use

Download and Install
Download this repository and run the installation script (Windows: install.bat; macOS/Linux: ./install.sh).
Start the MCP Server
Open Blender, enable the MCP plugin, and click 'Start MCP Server' in the toolbar.
Configure Cursor AI
Add MCP commands in the Cursor settings to connect to Blender.

Usage Examples

Create and Apply Materials
Generate a sphere through an AI assistant and assign a metallic texture to it.
Real-time Preview of the Scene
Start the real-time preview mode to observe the changes in the scene over time.
