🚀 MCP Nutanix China Open Source Project Introduction

This project aims to explore the application capabilities of the Model Context Protocol framework in the Go language. It has the following characteristics:

• Non-official product: It is not an official product or tool of Nutanix.
• No support guarantee: It is not supported, endorsed, or maintained by Nutanix.
• Not suitable for production: It is not suitable for formal production scenarios.

✨ Features

This MCP server allows large language models (LLMs) to achieve the following functions through interaction with Nutanix Prism Central:

1. Connect to a Prism Central instance using user credentials.
2. List various resources (virtual machines, clusters, hosts, etc.).
3. Obtain detailed information about specific resources through URI-based access.

This implementation uses the Prism Go client to communicate with Prism Central and the MCP Go library to implement the Model Context Protocol.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

• Go version 1.23 or higher.
• Access to a Nutanix Prism Central instance.
• It is recommended to use tools such as make and go fmt for building.

Build the Project

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/thunderboltsid/mcp-nutanix.git
cd mcp-nutanix

# Build the MCP server
make build

Run the Server

./bin/mcp-nutanix

After running, the system will prompt you to enter the Prism Central credentials.

💻 Usage Examples

Once the MCP server is connected to your Prism Central instance and running, large language models can interact with it through the MCP protocol.

List Resources

To list resources, use the following commands:

vms
clusters
hosts
images
subnets

The large language model will receive a JSON-formatted resource list, which can be parsed and analyzed.

Access Resources

To access specific resources, use the URI-based syntax:

vm://{uuid}
cluster://{uuid}
host://{uuid}

The large language model will receive detailed JSON information about the specified resource.

Code Generation

The project uses code generation techniques to create resource and tool processing modules. To update these contents:

make generate

🔧 Technical Details

• The response size is limited by the MCP protocol.
• Errors may occur for resources with a large amount of returned data.
• The current version does not support pagination.
• Only read operations are supported; create, update, or delete functions are not implemented yet.
