Toast MCP Server

🚀 MCP Server with Notification Function for Windows 10 and macOS

This project aims to create a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server capable of displaying desktop notifications. It uses the win10toast library on Windows 10 and osascript on macOS to show notifications. The server will receive requests from MCP clients (such as VSCode Cline) and display notifications on the desktop based on these requests.

🚀 Quick Start

The completed server can be run as follows:

python mcp_server.py --port 8000 --host 0.0.0.0

Then, notifications can be triggered via the MCP protocol through VSCode Cline or other MCP clients.

Functional Requirements

1. MCP Protocol Support
   • Implement communication with MCP clients to establish the Model Context Protocol.
   • Support the latest MCP specifications (providing full compatibility with VSCode Cline).
   • Handle both synchronous and asynchronous requests.
2. Notification System
   • Use the win10toast library to display desktop notifications on Windows 10.
   • Use osascript to display notifications in the Notification Center on macOS.
   • Support customizable notification parameters:
     • Title
     • Message content
     • Display time
     • Icon (Windows only, optional)

3. Client Connection
   • Support listening on the configured network interface (not limited to localhost 127.0.0.1, also support all interfaces 0.0.0.0).
   • Support setting the port (default: 8000).
   • Handle multiple simultaneous client connections.
   • Perform appropriate error handling for connection issues.
4. Command Processing
   • Process notification commands from MCP clients.
   • Support a simple API to trigger notifications.
   • Perform command validation and provide appropriate error responses.
