🚀 MySQL-MCP Server Implementation

This server directly implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP) without relying on external SDKs, offering database interaction and business intelligence capabilities. It enables SQL queries and data analysis via MySQL and automatically generates business insight memos.

🚀 Quick Start

The project provides sample databases and queries to help users get started quickly. Follow these steps to build and run the server:

1. Clone the repository

   git clone https://github.com/username/mysql-mcp.git
   cd mysql-mcp
   

2. Install dependencies

   npm install
   

3. Build the service endpoint

   npm run build
   

4. Start the server

   npm start

🛠️ Toolset

Query Tools

• read_query: Execute a SELECT query to read data from the database

  • Input: query (string) - The SELECT SQL query to be executed
  • Return: Query results in the form of an array of objects

• write_query: Execute an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE operation

  • Input: query (string) - The SQL query for modification
  • Return: { affected_rows: number }

• create_table: Create a new table in the database

  • Input: query (string) - The CREATE TABLE SQL statement
  • Return: Confirmation that the table has been created

Architecture Tools

• list_tables: Get a list of all tables in the database

  • No input required
  • Return: An array of table names

• describe_table: View the schema information of a specific table

  • Input: table_name (string) - The name of the table to be described
  • Return: An array containing column definitions, their names, and types

Analysis Tools

• append_insight: Add new business insights to the memo resource
  • Input: insight (string) - Business insights discovered in data analysis
  • Return: Confirmation that the insight has been added
  • Trigger an update to the memo://insights resource

📚 Resources

The server exposes one resource:

• memo://insights: A continuously updated business insight memo that aggregates all insights discovered during the analysis process
  • Automatically updated as new insights are added

🔧 Technical Details

This MCP server communicates with Claude directly using the JSON-RPC 2.0 protocol, handling tool lists, resource lists, and tool execution requests. Its implementation relies on the following libraries:

• mysql2: For MySQL database connections
• yargs: For command-line argument parsing
• readline: For standard input/output handling

⚙️ Configuration

The server is configured via environment variables. Create a .env file in the root directory with the following content:

The .env.example file provides a template that users can copy and modify as needed.
