📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.12 or higher.
• Gmail account (or other email service providers).
• If using Gmail:
  • Two - step verification is enabled.
  • App - specific password is generated.
• Claude desktop application.

Steps

1. Install uv:

   # MacOS/Linux
   curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh
   
   # Please restart the terminal after installation.
   

2. Clone and set up the project:

   # Clone the repository
   git clone https://github.com/ZilongXue/claude-post.git
   cd claude-post
   
   # Create and activate a virtual environment
   uv venv
   source .venv/bin/activate  # Use .venv\Scripts\activate for Windows systems
   
   # Install dependencies
   uv pip install -e .
   

3. Create a .env file in the project root directory:

   EMAIL_ADDRESS=your.email@gmail.com
   EMAIL_PASSWORD=your-app-specific-password
   IMAP_SERVER=imap.gmail.com
   SMTP_SERVER=smtp.gmail.com
   SMTP_PORT=587
   

4. Configure Claude desktop:
   • Open the settings interface of Claude Desktop.
   • Enable or configure ClaudePost - related options in the plugins or extensions section.
   • Ensure that the project path is correctly added to Claude's environment variables, for example:

     /your/project/path/claude-post
     

💻 Usage Examples

Searching for Emails

Check the content of the emails I received this morning.

Sending an Email

Send an email to Zhang San with the subject 'Project Progress Report'. The content should state that the recent project has been progressing smoothly and ask him to pay attention to relevant details.

Server Operation

• Start the server using Claude, ensuring a proper network connection.
• Use natural language commands in Claude to interact with emails, such as sending emails or managing the inbox.

Security Tips

• Use an app - specific password instead of your personal account password.
• For Gmail users:
  1. Enable two - step verification.
  2. Generate an app password.
  3. Use this password in the .env file.

Logging

The application records detailed information in the email_client.log file. Check this file for debugging information and error messages.
