The Loki MCP Server is an interface that allows querying Grafana Loki logs through logcli. It provides a Model Context Protocol (MCP) for AI assistants to directly access and analyze Loki's log data.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js v16 or higher.
• TypeScript.
• (Optional) Grafana Loki logcli installed and accessible in the PATH. If logcli is not available in the environment, the server will automatically use the Loki HTTP API.
• Access to a Grafana Loki server instance.

Install via Smithery

To automatically install the Simple Loki MCP Server for Claude Desktop via Smithery:

Basic Usage

Start the server:

npm start

Run in development mode:

npm run dev

🔧 Technical Details

Automatic Fallback to HTTP API

The server automatically checks if logcli is installed and available:

1. If logcli is available, all queries will use it, providing the same full functionality as the CLI tool.
2. If logcli is not available, the server will automatically fallback to using the Loki HTTP API:
   • No additional configuration is required.
   • It uses the same authentication parameters.
   • The response format is consistent with the CLI output.
   • Each query is limited to 1000 logs by default.

This automatic detection ensures that the server works seamlessly in different environments without manual configuration.
