🚀 Pulumi MCP Server

A server implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for interacting with the Pulumi CLI via the Pulumi Automation API and Pulumi Cloud API.

This package enables MCP clients to perform Pulumi operations, such as retrieving package information, previewing changes, deploying updates, and retrieving stack outputs, without the need to install the Pulumi CLI directly in the client environment.

⚠️ Important Note

This MCP server is currently under active development. Its API (including available commands and their parameters) is experimental and may introduce breaking changes without notice. If you encounter issues or need support for additional Pulumi commands, please report them on GitHub.

The Pulumi CLI must be installed on your machine.

This package is primarily used to integrate the MCP server into applications that can utilize MCP. For example, here's how to include the Pulumi MCP server in the MCP configuration file for Claude Desktop:

📦 Installation

Docker Container

You can also run the Pulumi MCP server as a Docker container. This approach eliminates the need to install Node.js and package dependencies directly on the host machine.

Build the Container

To build the container:

docker build -t pulumi/mcp-server:latest .

Use with MCP Client

To use the containerized server with an MCP client, you need to configure the client to use the Docker container. For example, in the MCP configuration for Claude Desktop:

For Pulumi operations that require access to the local Pulumi project directory, you need to mount the appropriate directory. For instance, if your Pulumi project is located at ~/projects/my-pulumi-app:

The server handles the following Pulumi operations, which can be invoked via MCP requests:

• preview: Runs pulumi preview.
  • Displays the results of new infrastructure operations.
• up: Runs pulumi up.
  • Deploys new and modified resources.
• down: Runs pulumi down.
  • Tears down all resources.
• destroy: Runs pulumi destroy.
  • Destroys all resources.
• introspect: Runs pulumi introspect.
  • Displays the current state of the stack.
• validate: Runs pulumi validate.
  • Validates that the configuration is valid and can be used.
