This is a TypeScript-based MCP server designed to enhance the code editing experience. It offers features like hover information, code completion, and diagnostics. It showcases language support through key MCP concepts, providing language-specific tools for code analysis and operation and integrating the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for seamless communication with clients.

✨ Features

Language Support

• Provide hover information for symbols in the code.
• Offer code completion suggestions.
• Report diagnostic information (errors, warnings).
• It has been tested on TypeScript and should theoretically support Python as well. We are eager to add other language servers or enable support for more languages.

MCP Integration

• Implement communication between the MCP protocol and the client.
• Expose language functions as MCP tools.

Tools

• get_hover: Get hover information at a certain position in the code.
  • Accepts languageId, filePath, content, line, and character as required parameters.
• get_completions: Get completion suggestions at a certain position in the code.
  • Accepts languageId, filePath, content, line, and character as required parameters.
• get_diagnostics: Get diagnostic information in the document.
  • Accepts languageId, filePath, and content as required parameters.

📦 Installation

Development

Install dependencies:

npm install

Build the server:

npm run build

Development with automatic rebuild:

npm run watch

Usage with Claude Desktop

To use it with Claude Desktop, add the following server configuration:

On MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Debugging

Since the MCP server communicates via stdio, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using MCP Inspector, which can be run as a package script with the following command:

npm run inspector

The Inspector will provide a URL to access the debugging tools in the browser.
