🚀 Linear MCP Server

This is an MCP server for managing the Linear API through Cline. It provides a set of tools for managing Linear issues, projects, and teams.

📦 Installation

1. Environment Setup

1. Clone the repository.
2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

3. Copy .env.example to .env:

   cp .env.example .env
   

2. Authentication Methods

The server supports two authentication methods:

API Key (Recommended)

1. Go to Linear settings.
2. Click on the "Security & Access" section.
3. Find the "Personal API Keys" section.
4. Click "New API Key".
5. Add a descriptive label to the key (e.g., "Cline MCP").
6. Copy the generated token.
7. Add the token to the .env file:

   LINEAR_API_KEY=your_api_key
   

OAuth Flow (Backup) Not Implemented

1. Create a new OAuth application at https://linear.app/settings/api/applications.
2. Configure the OAuth environment variables in .env:

   LINEAR_CLIENT_ID=your_oauth_client_id
   LINEAR_CLIENT_SECRET=your_oauth_client_secret
   LINEAR_REDIRECT_URI=http://localhost:3000/callback
   

3. Run the Server

1. Build the server:

   npm run build
   

2. Start the server:

   npm start
   

4. Cline Integration

1. Open your Cline MCP settings file:

   • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json
   • Windows: %APPDATA%/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json
   • Linux: ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json

2. Add the Linear MCP server configuration:

Error Handling

• 400 Bad Request: Incorrect request format or missing required parameters.
• 401 Unauthorized: Authentication failed.
• 404 Not Found: Resource not found.
• 500 Internal Server Error: Internal server error.
