The MCP protocol enables tools and agents to operate like REST API service applications. It achieves standardized integration and communication between tools and services.

MCP allows the following components to collaborate seamlessly:

• MCP Server (Tool) - Similar to a service that retrieves weather data.
• MCP Client (Agent and Application) - Similar to OpenWebUI.

You can think of the MCP server as a wrapper for tools, making them immediately available for AI applications.

Create a New Server

1. Set up the structure

   export MY_SERVER="my-server-name"
   uvx create-mcp-server --name $MY_SERVER --path ./servers/$MY_SERVER
   

2. Install dependencies

   cd ./servers/$MY_SERVER
   uv sync --dev --all-extras
   cd ../..
   

Run Locally

export MY_SERVER="my-server-name"
cd ./servers/$MY_SERVER && uv run $MY_SERVER

Development Tools

Use the official MCP Inspector tool to monitor your MCP server:

export MY_SERVER="my-server-name"
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uv --directory ./servers run $MY_SERVER

Build (Optional)

cd ./servers/$MY_SERVER
uv sync
uv build
cd ../..

Clean Up

To delete a server:

1. Remove the server entry from the member list in .
2. Execute the command:

   rm -r ./servers/$MY_SERVER
   uv sync
