What is MCP Guardian?

MCP Guardian is a management tool that helps you control the interaction between LLM (Large Language Model) assistants and MCP servers. It acts like a'security guard', monitoring and approving all requests sent by the LLM.

How to use MCP Guardian?

After installation, MCP Guardian will establish a proxy layer between the LLM and the MCP server. You can view all interaction records through the interface and decide whether to approve each request.

Applicable scenarios

When you need an LLM assistant to securely access sensitive servers or need to audit all operation records of the LLM, MCP Guardian is the best choice.

Main features

Message log recording
Completely record all interaction information between the LLM and the MCP server for easy auditing and backtracking
Message approval
Approve or reject each tool call request sent by the LLM in real-time
Automated security check
Automatically scan message content to detect potential security and privacy issues (coming soon)
Multi-server management
Easily manage multiple MCP server configurations without manually modifying configuration files
Advantages
Provide fine-grained control over LLM behavior
Complete operation audit logs
Simplify multi-server environment configuration
Enhance security and prevent sensitive information leakage
Limitations
Require additional infrastructure deployment
Automated security check function is not yet released
May introduce a small amount of network latency

How to use

Install Nix
First, install the Nix package manager on a Linux or macOS system
Enable Flakes feature
Configure Nix to enable the experimental Flakes feature
Enter the development environment
Use the nix develop command to enter the development environment
Build the project
Use the just command to build the release version
Run the program
After the build is complete, the program is located in the _build/bin directory

Usage examples

Audit LLM operations
The security team needs to review all operations of the LLM assistant on the financial system in the past week
Block sensitive operations
It is found that the LLM is trying to perform an operation to delete the database, and it needs to be blocked immediately
