Overview of MCP Server Architecture

Components:

• MCP Node —— The core server component that handles MCP requests.
• IPFS —— A distributed storage system for handling content.
• Client —— Interacts with the MCP server to send and receive data.
• Claude AI —— Assists in processing and optimizing MCP interactions.

Component Interaction Flow:

1. The client sends a request to the MCP node.
2. The MCP node processes the request and interacts with IPFS as needed.
3. Claude AI helps process and optimize the response.
4. The response is returned to the client.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites:

• Node.js (Recommended version 18+)
• NPM or Yarn

Installation Steps

The installation steps depend on whether you are using Claude Code or Claude Desktop.

Claude Code Run claude mcp add and enter the following information as prompted:

Server Name: mcp-ipfs
Server Command: node
Command Parameters: node /ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/PARENT/FOLDER/mcp-ipfs-server/build/index.js

Claude Desktop Add the following configuration to claude_desktop_config.json:

Automated Installation and Deployment

Use the following bash script to automatically deploy the server:

Running the MCP Server

After installation, run the following command to start the MCP server:

node build/index.js

💻 Usage Examples

Creating a Project

Run the following commands in the terminal:

mkdir my-mcp-project
cd my-mcp-project
npm init -y
npm install mcp-server

Example Code

Create an index.js file in the project root directory and add the following content:

Running the Example

Run the following command in the terminal:

node index.js

Visit http://localhost:3000 to check the status of the MCP server.
