🚀 JIRA MCP Integration

A Model Context Protocol server for integrating JIRA with Claude. This tool allows Claude to create JIRA tickets directly in your conversations.

Create a Ticket

Create a new JIRA ticket.

Parameters:

• summary: The title or summary of the ticket (required).
• issue_type: The type of the ticket (Bug, Task, or Story, default is Task).
• description: The detailed description of the ticket (optional).
• acceptance_criteria: The acceptance criteria of the ticket (optional, stored in custom field 10429).
• story_points: The story points of the ticket (optional, Fibonacci sequence: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc.).
• create_test_ticket: Override the default setting to decide whether to automatically create an associated test ticket (optional, boolean).
• parent_epic: The key of the associated parent epic story (optional, e.g., "PROJ-123").

When creating a story-type ticket with story points:

• Automatically add the "QA-Testable" label to the story.
• If AUTO_CREATE_TEST_TICKETS is enabled, automatically create an associated test ticket.
• The test ticket uses the story's title as its description.
• Establish a "Test Case Linking" association between the test ticket and the story.

Get a Ticket

Retrieve detailed information about an existing JIRA ticket.

Parameters:

• ticket_id: The ID of the JIRA ticket to read (required).

Search for Tickets

Search for JIRA tickets by issue type.

Parameters:

• issue_type: The type of issue to search for (Bug, Task, Story, or Test) (required).
• max_results: The maximum number of results to return (optional, default is 10, maximum is 50).
• additional_criteria: Additional JQL criteria to include in the search (optional).

This tool allows you to find all tickets of a specific type (e.g., all Bug-type tickets) in your JIRA project. You can further refine the search by providing additional JQL criteria.

Link Tickets

Link two JIRA tickets together.

Parameters:

• outward_issue: The key of the outward issue (required).
• inward_issue: The key of the inward issue (required).
• link_type: The type of link to create (optional, default is "Test Case Linking").

💻 Usage Examples

Using Claude

After proper configuration, you can directly ask Claude to create JIRA tickets:

Please create a JIRA ticket to track the database performance issue we discussed.

You can also specify the acceptance criteria for the ticket:

Create a JIRA ticket for implementing the new user authentication feature and include the following acceptance criteria:
- Users can log in using email and password.
- The password reset function works correctly via email.
- The account is locked after 5 failed attempts.
- Support OAuth integration with Google and Facebook.

Claude will use the ticket creation tool to generate a ticket with all the specified details in your JIRA project.

📦 Installation

Obtain a JIRA API Token

1. Log in to your Atlassian account: https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security
2. Go to Security > API tokens.
3. Click "Create API token".
4. Provide a name for the token (e.g., "Claude Integration").
5. Click "Create".
6. Copy the token (you won't be able to view it again).

🔧 Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues:

1. Check if your JIRA credentials are correct.
2. Verify that the path to the index.js file in the project is correct in claude_desktop_config.json.
3. Ensure that Claude has permission to use the tool.
4. Check for any error messages related to the JIRA MCP server in the Claude console.
